Call for Art: Contributions to Community Shrines at Festival of the Skeletons
The Village of the Arts is hosting the 13th annual Festival of the Skeletons during November's Artwalk Weekend, November 3rd and 4th. Festival of the Skeletons is a celebration of life as we remember our departed loved ones in the tradition of Dia de Los Muertos. Each year the Village of the Arts dedicates a community shrine during the festival to an iconic artist or other public figure. This year the Village will honor two beloved southwest Florida icons, Snooty the manatee and music legend Gregg Allman, a southwest Florida native!
Village artists, residents and members of the community are invited to provide contributions to each altar. Anyone who wishes to submit a small piece of art or memento to either shrine should contact the following organizers for more information.
- The contact person for the Snooty shrine is Zoe Von Averkamp at Divine Excess Folk Art Gallery. 941-746-4556
- The contact person for the Gregg Allman shrine is Anne E. Whittemore-Firestone at Firestone Gallery. 941-896-7172
(Anne is also seeking contributions for a Tom Petty shrine.)
