Call for Artist Entries - - Latin Festival Art - - Village of the Arts
The Artists Guild of Manatee, Inc. on behalf of Bradenton’s Village of the Arts is soliciting artists’ entries for inclusion in the following juried art exhibit:
Annual Noche de los Muertos (Night of the Dead) Juried Art Exhibition
Exhibit Location: Participating Galleries located in the Village of the Arts
Bradenton, FL 34205
Show Dates: November 7 through November 29, 2008
Reception: Friday, November 7, 2008, 6 – 9:30 pm in conjunction with the Art Walk.
Intent of the Exhibit
- to celebrate ManaSota’s rich Hispanic heritage and cultural diversity,
- to increase cultural awareness and appreciation among the Village residents and artists through the celebration of the Day and Night of the Dead, a traditional Mexican holiday, and
- to honor the deceased and celebrate the continuity of life
Jurors: TBA
Eligibility: 1) Open to all Manatee and Sarasota county artists working in any medium; 2) Submitted work should reflect the theme of the exhibit; 3) All media, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, digital images, and assemblages are acceptable. Nontraditional materials and/or mixed media submissions are welcome. 4) Completed Registration Form and materials must be received by October 22, 2008.
Award: $150 Best of Show Award
Requirements: All entries must meet the following requirements: 1) original work produced by the artist or team of artists; 2) work must be gallery quality and ready to hang/display; 3) finished artwork (including framing, base, etc.) cannot exceed 50” in any direction; 4) work must have been completed within the last two years, and 5) work must not have been previously shown in any Village gallery.
Conditions: The Artists Guild of Manatee, Inc., hereinafter referred to as the Guild and any judge(s) acting on behalf of the Guild, make the following conditions applicable for all artists and submitted entries: 1) the Guild reserves the right to photograph accepted art for limited publicity purposes; 2) all accepted art must remain on exhibit throughout the designated show schedule; 3) a commission of 30% will be deducted from the stated sale price on all art sales; 4) state sales tax on any sales will be collected in accordance with the State of Florida Dept. of Revenue provisions; 5) the Guild reserves the right to refuse any art work that is too fragile, oversized, or does not meet the theme, standards or conditions of eligibility; 6) the Guild cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage during shipment; 7) the Guild reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding eligibility of work; 8) the Guild cannot be held responsible for any damage to or loss of artwork during shipment or exhibition, and 9) art work left more than 30 days after the show closes becomes the property of the Guild. How to Enter: Entries will be juried from digital photo files or samples. Awards will be judged from the original works of art.
Entry Fee: $10 per entry. Up to three entries are allowed per artist or artist team. Fees must accompany the registration form. All entry fees are nonrefundable.
Sets: Art works of multiple units are considered as one entry only when priced and labeled as one piece.
Forms: Contestants shall complete, sign and submit exhibit registration forms. State the work’s title, media, overall size, and sale price for each entry.
SASE: If not hand-delivering your registration, please include both: 1) a viable E-mail address or a self-addressed stamped #10 envelope for notification of jurying results, and (2) an envelope large enough and with sufficient affixed postage to return samples.
Samples: Actual work must be identical to samples. 1) send email attachment, digital file, sample photo, computer print or laser copy (do not send finished work); 2) preferred sample size is 4”x6” or 5”x7” on back of sample, write the artist’s name, title of work, size of finished work, and denote by arrow the top of image; 4) if submitting multiple entries, label samples A, B, or C to match entries as listed on registration form.
Digital Photo File: 1)Immediately after submitting the registration forms and fees, E-mail your digital photo file to littleswamp2002@yahoo.com; 2) preferred sample size is 4”x6” or 5”x7”; 3) within E-mail text, include the artist’s name, title of work, and size of finished work; 4) if submitting multiple entries, label samples A, B, or C to match entries as listed on registration form.
Juror Notification of Acceptance: Artists will be notified of acceptance by E-mail or USPS mail no later than November 3, 2008.
Accepted Entries: Accepted work must be received by the Guild no later than October 31, 2008. Work will be juried for awards after it is received and hung. The Best of Show Award will be announced and presented at the Reception on Nov 7, 2008.

The Artists’ Guild of Manatee, Inc. on behalf of Bradenton’s Village of the Arts is soliciting entries for inclusion in the following juried altar contest:
Third Annual Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Altar Contest
Altar Locations: Front Yards in Bradenton’s Village of the Arts District
Bradenton, FL 34205
Exhibit Dates: Nov 7 and 8, 2008
Intent of the Contest: 1) To celebrate Bradenton’s rich Hispanic heritage and cultural diversity; 2) To increase cultural awareness and appreciation among Village residents and artists through the celebration of the Day and Night of the Dead, a traditional Mexican holiday, and 3) To honor the deceased and celebrate the continuity of life.
Artists/residents’ willingness to learn more about and incorporate the thematic and cultural components of the celebration is integral to the process.
Award: $75 Best Traditional Altar Award, awarded Nov 7th
$75 Best Contemporary Altar Award, awarded Nov 7th
Jurors: To Be Announced
Eligibility: 1)Geographic bounds for altar contest participation are those streets and avenues designated by the City of Bradenton to be within the district known as the Village of the Arts. 2) Contest is open to all Village of the Arts artists and residents. 3) Individuals or teams from outside the Village of the Arts may also participate in the contest if they are sponsored by any Village of the Arts resident or gallery and so long as the sponsored altar is located within the geographic bounds of the Village. 4) Completed Contest Registration Form must be received by October 31, 2008 in order for the altar to be included in the contest judging and to be represented on the exhibition map.
Requirements: 1) Altars should reflect the theme of the contest; 2) Finished altars should be placed in a Village front yard, viewable from the street; 3) Altars must remain on exhibit from November 7th and November 8th and, weather permitting, should be illuminated from dusk to 11:00 pm Nov 7th and Nov 8th; 4) For safety reasons, electric, battery operated or solar lighting/illumination are strongly encouraged in place of open candles traditionally used for altars.
Conditions: The Artists Guild of Manatee, hereinafter referred to as the Guild, shall make the following conditions applicable for all contest entries: 1) the Guild reserves the right to photograph altars for Village of the Arts publicity purposes; 2) the Guild reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding contest and award eligibility; 3) the Guild cannot and will not be held responsible for any personal injury, any damage to or loss of altars, or any damage to or loss of any other real or personal property.
